Peace Works – A Market with a Mission – has officially reopened at 12 Mississippi St in the Village of Elsah.

The fair-trade shop now features several new artists and businesses in its beautiful historic location. Built in 1847, the building was once the Riverside Hotel, an overnight layover for riverboat travelers.

Open Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Peace Works offers:

  • SPLATTER: Artwork in varied mediums, including paintings, textiles, and mixed media by Ellen Connoyer Case.

Opening June 6, 2026 – Saturdays and Sundays Noon-4pm thru October

An inviting new space! full of regional artwork and antiques for sale – Victorian thru Mid-Century, European, Japanese and American. Find custom furniture, pottery, photographs, paintings, drawings, sculpture, weavings, eco-dyed silk and a complement of artisan made items. Something for everyone. See how these creative pieces can make your home very special. Available for advance appointment.

Artist’s featured: Jane Chrisanty, David Coughtry, Sun Smith-Forêt, Dan Kistler, Libby Reuters, Danne Rhaesa, Jan and Jon Wright, with many other artisan artworks and artifacts mixed in, for just the right mix.

An open space on the lower level provides more gallery space and a large room for creative workshops and community activities. A schedule is available on a first come basis thru a $100 rental fee to non-residents for 1-4 sessions (over 4 weeks), 4 hours each. Residents of Elsah can schedule the meeting space for free with a minimal cleaning fee.

Parking available on street and off. There are six steps to the front door.
