Local Art & Photography At Elsah Museum through October
Announcing a new exhibit at The Elsah Museum, starting now and ending in October. Plus a photo exhibit of the winners of previous years’ photo contests has been installed – also to be viewed thru October.
Elsah is full of creative people, and this season we selected 5 artists, in multiple genres, to exhibit a small selection of their work in our museum as a part of our Contemporary Works series.
The Museum open hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4pm, coinciding with the open hours of the Elsah General Store (next door) and Peace Works, a gift store with handmade crafts from all over the world (a few doors away).
Erected in 1887, the Village Hall is now used as a museum. Exhibits include information about Elsah’s founder, Gen. James Semple and his family, architectural styles of Elsah, tools, artifacts, an Elsah mural, and photographs from the 19th and early 20th century.
Attendance is free!
In the new exhibit, two painters (Bert VanderMark and Barbara Clark), a collage artist (Ted Ostrowski), a printmaker (Dan Kistler), and a sculptor (Danne Rhaesa), all call Elsah their home. They chose Elsah over many other locales because of its historical roots, glorious vistas, and quiet, rural surroundings.
Each of the artists had a former history with Elsah and chose to return. Their former stomping grounds were in Florida, Detroit, Kansas City, and St. Louis, all much larger municipalities, but they came back to create in Elsah and we’re so proud that they did!
Hope you can make the exhibit sometime before the end of October!
