Village Matters Safety Issue: Vehicles speeding through Elsah
A committee convened by the Elsah Trustees was formed in June to analyze and take action on the safety issue surrounding vehicles continuing to speed through the Village, primarily on Mill Street. On Tuesday July 9, it was decided that the village will invest in speed deterrents known as ‘speed humps.” What is the difference between speed bumps and humps? According to Wikicamel, Speed bumps and speed humps are just different approaches to the same problem; slowing down vehicles. Speed humps tend to be slightly smaller in height than speed bumps but longer, whereas speed bumps are taller and more likely to be found in a parking lot. The idea is that speed humps will get the message across to decrease speed vs. more aggressive bumps that can damage vehicle undercarriages and impede emergency vehicles.
This is a really positive development as we have increasingly seen many close calls, accidents, and wanton disregard for posted speeds. A shout-out to the committee volunteers and our Trustees who worked hard to research this and get it on the calendar asap. Great job!
